Truck rates likely to firm up

MUMBAI, MAY 23: Freight rates for the nine-tonne load vehicles from Mumbai to the rest of the country may rise in the coming week, according to transporters. Last week saw rates to Jammu & Kashmir and Kerala spurting in the band of Rs 500-Rs 2,500, first time especially to Kerala for some time now. However, rates towards the rest of the country stayed calm or near steady levels.

The freight rates to a few states like Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu increased very marginally while the rates to remaining states remained same. In the north, the truck rates remained stable except to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The rates to Jammu rose to Rs 23,000, up Rs 2,000. The rates to Srinagar also increased by Rs 2,000 to settle at Rs 25,000. While rates to Baramullah went up by Rs 2,500 to Rs 25,000. The rates to Shimla and Shimoga increased by Rs 100 to Rs 17,100 and Rs 16,300, respectively.

There was no change for rates to Delhi (Rs 14,500). Consequently, the rates to Haryana and Punjab also remainedsteady. The freight rates to Patna and Hazipur remained at Rs 21,000 and 18,500, respectively. In the western sector also the freight rates did not witnessed any change. In the eastern region, the rates to Guwahati decreased by Rs 3,000 to Rs 32,000 due to slowdown in the cargo movement. The Mumbai to Calcutta rates went up by Rs 500 to settle at Rs 21,000. The freight rates to Siliguri were same at Rs 23,000. The rates to Orissa too remained same. The rates to Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar were at Rs 17,000 and Rs 16,000. In south, the truck rates to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka remained static while to Kerala showed a significant jump. The truck rates to Tamil Nadu improved marginally.

The truck rates from Mumbai to Bangalore were at Rs 10,000. The rates to Chennai rose by Rs 200 to Rs 13,200. Kerala was the only state in the south to which the rates showed substantial improvement due to shortage of vehicles and an enhanced cargo movement. The Mumbai to Trichur rates were up Rs 1,000 to Rs 15,000 while ratesto Cochin improved by Rs 500 to Rs 14,500.The truck rates to Calicut jumped up by Rs 700 to Rs 14,800.
