IBM launches S/390 G6 serverIBM has launched what it claims is the world's most powerful commercial enterprise server - the S/390 G6. The server is the first enterprise machine to use IBM's copper chip technology and, running at 637 MHz, boasts a 1,600 MIPS capacity. IBM and SAP have also announced that OS/390 will be supported as an application server environment for SAP's R/3 ERP application solution.
G-15 to launch Y2K website
G-15 will soon host a website addressing Y2K-related problems with inputs from all member countries to tackle the computer menace, sources said on Monday. "G-15 will jointly host the website to address the Y2K problem within 10 days. We will finalise the contents and other formalities during the five-day deliberations," top executives at the G-15 expert level meeting on Y2K told PTI.
Microsoft opens centre of excellence
Microsoft on Monday opened its first centre of excellence in Punjab at the Regional Engineering College in Jallandhar in associationwith the state government. The Centre of Excellence is part of the Microsoft authorised academic training partner programme of the department of technical education and industrial training of the Punjab government, a company release said.
Lotus acquires Onestone
Lotus Development Corp has announced its acquisition of ONEStone Holding Inc and its workflow software technologies to enhance the ability of Lotus' customers to develop productivity-boosting workflow applications. Terms of the acquisition was, however, not disclosed. By strengthening the workflow capabilities within Lotus' foundation technologies, this acquisition will broaden opportunities for Lotus business partners worldwide.

PCS Industries to provide ERP solutions
PCS Industries will soon provide ERP solutions to small and medium size firms. PCS would offer solutions right from entry level to include AS400 servers and software in the range of Rs 15-18 lakh to large integrated requirement costing few crores, a company release said.
