`Caretaker government to implement Budget proposals'

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Hazaribagh, May 8: The Government will function 'like a normal regular' government and take steps to implement the economic decisions proposed in its budget for 1999-2000, according to finance minister Yashwant Sinha. Talking to reporters at the Regional Training Institute here on Thursday, Sinha said that though the Lok Sabha was dissolved, "it will not affect the BJP-led dispensation to take and implement decisions as the Government is of the view that the President has asked it to function as usual till a new government is formed". Sinha said there was no mention in the constitution preventing the present Government from doing so. Holding the opposition parties responsible for prolonging the election dates, he said, "If they agree, the BJP-led coalition is prepared to face the electorate by July 15".Sinha, however, said the Government cannot issue an ordinance on the pending IRA, foreign exchange, Fera and about six more economic bills tabled in the dissolved house. He said the fate of such bills would bedecided by the next Lok Sabha.
