Graphite India posts net profit of Rs 15.47 crore

Calcutta, May 8: Graphite India Ltd, a KK Bangur group company manufacturing graphite electrodes, has posted a total income of Rs 220.45 crore for the year to March 31, 1999 as against Rs 216.70 crore in the previous year. Net profit has increased to Rs 15.47 crore from Rs 14.15 crore in 1997-98.Profit before interest, depreciation, non-recurring item and tax amounted to Rs 52.90 crore as against Rs 41.31 crore. The company has maintained dividend at 25 per cent.

During 1998-99, Graphite India incurred Rs 84 lakh expenditure on account of its voluntary retirement scheme as against Rs 75 lakh paid last year. Interest and depreciation charges were higher at Rs 25.56 crore and Rs 9.53 crore respectively. Company sources pointed out that steel glut and corresponding decline in prices in the global market led to a marginal decline in Graphite India's exports. In order to expand its export base, the company has forayed into new territories as well as upgraded the quality of the product.
