Australian wool prices stay range bound

REUTER
Sydney, May 7: The Australian wool market continues to hover around its present level after another quiet week, woolbrokers and market analysts said on Friday. The AWEX eastern market indicator fell two cents to end the week at 547 cents/kg clean. The western region indicator rose three cents to finish at 490 cents/kg clean. A total of 78,729 bales were offered for sale with 18.2 per cent passed in. Auction sales started the week on a solid note and there was little change in the eastern markets for the first two days, woolbroker Wesfarmers Dalgety Ltd said.

``Finer micron wool which has been driving the market in recent weeks weakened in price with buyers being selective about re-offered wool in these categories,'' Bob Quirk of the Australian Wool Secretariat said. ``In contrast, finer micron wools with other well measured characteristics being offered for the first time remain in strong demand,'' Quirk said.
