Essar offers roaming service between Delhi-Russia
Essar Cellphone on Thursday announced the launch of bilateral automatic roaming between Delhi and Russia. The service has been made possible in association with North-West GSM of Russia which is the largest cellular service operator there. The roaming service between Delhi and Russia would allow Essar Cellphone subscribers in Delhi to use their existing SIM cards and also retain the same mobile number while seamlessly roaming anywhere in Russia. The roaming service being bilateral would also enable the cellular subscribers of North-West GMS in Russia to remain connected while they are on the move in Delhi.

Gujarat declares CBSE results on Net
Gujarat has became the first state in the country to declare results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination of the science stream held in March this year on three websites. The three websites -- www.gujaratindia.com, www.gscbresults.com and www.icenet.net -- were inaugurated by ChiefMinister Keshubhai Patel in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

JT Mobiles' Millennium Scheme
JT Mobiles Ltd has launched its Millennium Scheme in Karnataka on Wednesday. Adhering to TRAI recommendations, the scheme is expected to bring mobile telephony closer to end-customer. The new facility will be available at a monthly fee of Rs 600 as against a one-time processing charge of Rs 700. Out-going calls (per minute) are fixed at Rs 6 and Rs 2.97 for day and night respectively. However, in-coming calls will not be charged.

TMRO-TEK introduces NT-1
Bangalore-based networking and datacom company, MRO-TEK Ltd, has introduced NT-1, a device that facilitates to covert `U' interface from ISDN exchange to `S' interface at subscriber end. The company has obtained a type approval certificate for the same from Telecom Engineering group of the Union government, said a release.

Wendt to launch website today
Wendt (India) Ltd, a joint venture between Wendt GmbH and Carborandum Universal, willlaunch its website on Friday in order to make its products accessible to world market. The website will provide information on products with pictures at www.wendtgrind.com.

Speedwing launches second world network services
Speedwing, the information technology arm of British Airways, on Thursday launched the second site of world network services a new data management and information processing business in Pune, with an initial investment of Rs 8.8 crore. John Patterson, British airways director of alliances, will officially open the new offices in Pune. Speedwing World Network Services will employ 900 staff locally-providing information technology, administrative and office support services to large, medium and small companies across the world, primarily from the transport and finance industries, a company release said.

PFC exploring for cheaper finance
Power Finance Corporation (PFC) is exploring various possibilities of availing cheaper finance including up to 49 per centdisinvestment of government equity through issue of preferential shares. Proposal for conversion of a part of equity paid-up capital into preference share capital is part of the corporation's draft corporate Strategic Plan 2007, PFC sources told PTI.

Rs 1400-cr railway works underway in Kerala
Railway development works with a total expenditure of Rs 1400 crore are underway in Kerala, according to N Krithivasan, general manager, Southern Railway. The ongoing works included track doubling in Shornur-Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam sectors, construction of 14 over-bridges and stepping up facilities in major stations Krithivasan told at a press meet programme here. The proposed Ankamali-Sabarimala line was awaiting clearances of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and Planning Commission.

India yet to realise the potential of biomass energy
India is yet to realise the full potential of its enormous biomass residues that can partly solve its energy crisis problem,according to an expert. By using appropriate technologies, thousands of megawatts (mw) of electricity can be generated from unused rice husk, coconut shells, coffee and tea plantations, as well as from waste lands, says H S Mukunda, from the aeronautical engineering division at Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bangalore. For example, the country produces 24 million tonnes of rice husks, every bit of which can be used to generate electricity or recover commercially valuable carbon and silica. But only 60 per cent of it is being utilised in India.

AP allocates Rs 550 crore for irrigation repair works
Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked Rs 550 crore for irrigation repairs work, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said on Thursday. The amount would be allocated to the Water Users'Association (WUAS) for carrying out the repairs work, Naidu told reporters after holding a tele-conference with all district collectors. Naidu reviewed the functioning of irrigation and civil supplies departmentsduring the conference and urged the collectors to check the price rise in essential commodities.

ABB bags order from Gail
ABB has bagged an order from the GAIL to design, engineer and supply terminal automation system (TAS) for its Auraiya LPG recovery site. The TAS would be supplied for liquefied petroleum gas, propane and natural gasolene. ABB would supply high end load rack-computers running on 64 bits risk processor and associated advant controllers. The TAS would enable an on-line automatic monitoring of the entire system. The system would also provide a seamless integration to the commercial computer system.

British award for BEL unit
The Ghaziabad unit of Bharat Electronics Limited has been awarded the national safety award, 1998 for the 10th time by the British Safety Council, England. The unit headed by V B Srinivasan has also been conferred the US safety council award once and awarded four safety awards by the Union labour ministry.

PHDCCI on HERC norms
Efficientand reliable distribution of power to the consumers in an economical manner should be the guiding principle of tariff fixation by the Haryana Electricity Regulation Commission, a leading industrial chamber said. Since supply of electricity is a monopoly, the commission's responsibility is significant to balance the interest of various category of consumer on the one hand and the revenue requirements of the supplier on the other. As such while approving the tariff application of the licencee, realistic and yet bold parameters should be applied, a Phd Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Phdcci) note said. The rationale for fixation of tariff has to be, by and large,guided by the principles detailed in the sixth schedule of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948.
