Bangalore, Apr 26: The BPL group has reported a whopping 36 per cent rise involume in colour televisions for the period April 1998 to February 1999,according to the latest ORG reports. With this growth, BPL has maintained its numero-uno position with an overallmarketshare of 20.2 per cent. A BPL Ltd statement said that the actual salesvolume was much higher than the ORG reports, as ORG monitors onlymulti-brand outlets in the country and not the offtakes through BPLexclusive galleries.
According to BPL Ltd head (corporate brand communications) Anand Narasimha, the performance was remarkable as it was despite the market gettingfragmented due to stiff competition. In four out of five segments of colourtelevisions (20-, 21-, 25-, and 29-inch), BPL is the number one brand as onFebruary 1999--despite a market that was inundated with competitive consumeroffers and deals from low technology brands. BPL is the No. 2 brand in the14-inch segment. Independent market research shows that despite theaggressive price and competition in the marketplace, BPL is still perceivedas the top-brand in terms of recall, inclination to buy/recommend, productdifferentiation, image and credibility.
The company is now planning to unveil new range of colour televisions whichwill come equipped with latest technologies, in the coming months. Accordingto the company, the new range of products is expected to set standards intelevision technology for the new millennium.
