New Delhi, Apr 26: Chinese electronics giant Konka will soon move the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for setting up a manufacturing base in India besides recasting the present board of directors of the Indian subsidiary, with more representation from the parent company."We have drafted a fresh proposal for FIPB's perusal in which Konka India seeks a manufacturing company status," chief executive officer of Konka India, Rajeev Puri, told PTI here on Monday.
Also, Konka India has begun an exercise to reconstitute its board of directors, wherein three representatives would be from Konka China."In the new board, the chairman and both the directors will be from Konka China, while the vice-chairmen will be one each from equity partners Hotline and Wittis," Puri said.
This move is expected to divide Konka China's product demand for the entire Asian as well as European markets between the existing Chinese facility and the proposed Indian manufacturing facility.
According to the existing FIPB approval, Konka India is permitted to conduct only marketing and trade activities in the country.
While Konka China holds 51 per cent equity stake in its Indian subsidiary, electronic components major Hotline and Hong Kong firm Wittis together hold the remaining 49 per cent equity.
Konka has earmarked a total Rs 200 crore for investment in its Indian operations and this amount would be brought into the country in stages, once Konka India begins manufacturing operations, Puri said.
As per the existing proposal, the Chinese major has committed a Rs 42 crore investment in India over the next three years, with an export commitment of Rs 80 crore over the next seven years.
Konka India has already announced plans to launch its product range in India from July onwards, which will initially be imported from China and assembled here.
"We'll introduce 30 colour television models besides seven hi-fi audio products over eight months all over India, beginning July," Puri said.
The CTV and audio models' launch would be followed by a nationwide white goods' launch, including washing machines, refrigerators and air conditioners, he said.
"We'll launch a new product category every six months, with a five-year warranty and unique features in each category," Puri said.
For example, the company will offer the only six-inch and 42-inch colour television models besides a "Cannon Woofer" quality sound system with CTVs in the premium and super-premium price bands.
