Giving potential leaders a helping hand

Lalitha Srinivasan
Mumbai, Apr 25: Leaders are not born, they are made: Showing how to nurture such talent was a management workshop on ``Building orga-nisational leadership for the next millennium,'' organised by The Centre for Change Management on Friday at Nehru Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. The workshop focused on the leadership abilities for professionals in the 21st century. The Centre for Change Management program facilitator and director R L Bhatia said the objective was to demonstrate how organisations can build leadership potential and attitudes amongst their employees. In an effort to inspire the participants, the workshop had adopted `Interactive Video Training Methodology', a module designed to enable participation, interaction and experience sharing among the audience, Bhatia said.

The workshop covered audio visual aids in understanding visionary leadership, team building, the crucial role of leadership and methods for self-development. ``Be innovative and translate your ideas into profitable realities. Leadershipis going to be a limiting resource as we move on to the 21st century,'' said Bhatia.

Bhatia explained how various methods can be adopted to gain leadership in any organisation. To illustrate, Bhatia had chosen a few dramatic scenes from The Sound of Music, SisterAct, My Fair Lady, Ten Commandments and Jurassic Park.

Six city test-launch
In an effort to inspire business professionals, the Centre for Change Management has test-launched the module -`Interactive Video Training Methodology' -- in six cities: Delhi, Ahmedabad, Goa, Bangalore, Calcutta and Mumbai.

Says R L Bhatia, director of the Centre, the module has been test launched in select cities to enable professionals in recognising the importance of leadership abilities.

The centre initiated the test-launch process three months ago. After Mumbai, the centre plans to hold workshops in Pune, Cochin and Coimbatore. It also plans to go in for a formal national launch in May this year, and the product will be strategically priced in theIndian markets with the objective to reach to the masses.

The centre also plans to hold a `World Strategy Forum' on strategic marketing management in September 1999.
