RPG Cellular revises tariffs, rentals
RPG Cellular Services, mobile phone operator for Tamil Nadu, will revise tariffs and rentals for its services with effect from May 1 in the wake of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) order. RPG has chalked out a a `Super Call Plan' offering substantial reduction in air-time rates, a company release said. As per the plan, the current peak time tariff of Rs 16.80 per minute is being reduced to Rs 6 per minute for 11 hours a day from 10 am to 9 pm. The balance 13 hours (from 9 pm to 10 am) will cost only Rs 3 per minute. However, the monthly rental will increase from the current Rs 156 to Rs 600.Tektronix's new launch
Tektronix has launched its M366plus Release 5.0 GSM Quality Analyzer enabling network operators and manufacturers to measure voice, data and fax quality in GSM networks. GSMobile operators can now ensure quality of service and solve the problems of the customer with the M366plus quality analyzer. The M366plus Release 5.0analyzer includes a fixed-based station with one or more mobile stations that generate around eight end-to-end connections between PSTN, GSM, DCS and PCS networks. By testing specific parameters in the voice channel, the analyzer can identify trouble spots and provide objective measurements of end users' perception of voice quality.
WWWizards multimedia club
NRI start-up company Athome Multimedia Ltd has kicked off operations offering a complete multimedia package for home users. Similar to a club, the service christened `WWWizards' offers membership benefits at monthly subscription fees. Options include a package with a branded multimedia PC (presently being procured from HCL), choice of CD-ROMs, home tutorial service, trouble-shooting, et al. Electronic voting machines
Electronic voting machines would be put to use in Mumbai and Thane city in the forthcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra, chief election officer DK Shankaran has said. Shankaran said Mumbai had 8,000 polling booths while there were around 800 in Thane city. There were around 10,000 electronic voting machines in the state and if need be additional machines could be requisitioned from other states, Shankaran said.
