CII urges Presidentto end politicalstalemate

Corpoarte Bureau
New Delhi, Apr 24: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has strongly urged the President of India K R Narayanan to end the political uncertainty at the earliest as it was damaging the country's image as well as the economic and investment climate at a time when there was a very important pending economic agenda for the country to move ahead on.

Complimenting the President for his intervention and role in the passing of the Union and railway budgets, CII president Rajesh Shah said it reflected the President's commitment to ensure that political events must not be allowed to hurt the Indian economy.

Disinvestment and privatisation, domestic and foreign investment, WTO issues, the infrastructure and the capital market were major examples of pending issues for the country to progress to on, said CII.

The CII president has emphasised that India must now have a strong Central government which recognises that high economic growth on a sustained basis was essential and whichever government now comes inmust ensure this.Alternatively, if there has to be an election, it should be at the earliest possible in order to end the ongoing political uncertainty which was proving to be extremely costly for the nation, Shah added.
