New Delhi, Apr 24: The Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) achieved another milestone in execution of Bakreswar power project in West Bengal with the light up of 210 mw unit-I boiler, 30 days ahead of schedule.The boiler was lighted up by state governor AR Kidwai, triggering the activities for commissioning of first of the three 210 mw unit in presence of the state's power minister, SK Sen. A BHEL release said that the erection of boiler commenced within 144 days from the start of civil foundations as against schedule of 195 days and key elements of contract like boiler-drum lifting and hydraulic testing were also achieved ahead of schedule.
The main plant package of this greenfield power project of three units of 210 mw each, had been awarded on a turnkey basis to BHEL-ITOCHU combine, against stiff global competition.
The project is being funded by OECF of Japan in which BHEL has the major share covering boilers, generators, auciliaries, controls andinstrumentation, all balance of plants, civil andconstruction works.This was the 150th, 210 mw boiler manufactured and supplied by BHEL so far in the country and it sets account for about 65 per cent of the country's present installed generating capacity of about 90,500 mw, the release added.
