Mumbai, Apr 22: The president of the Indian Newspaper Society, Mammen Mathew, has regretted the decision of the All-India Newspaper Employees' Federation to go on a one-day token strike on Thursday in protest againt what they call the INS' ``hardened attitude towards the wage board's tentative proposals.''According to INS, no decision, even tentatively, was taken by the wage boards. ``It is reported that a voluminous discussion paper was tabled by the wage boards' secretariat on April 6, 1999, and immediately thereafter the boards adjourned to enable members to study and discuss the matter in early May 1999.''
INS said that both the sides should ensure that the wage boards presided over by Justice RK Manisana Singh could complete the work in a just manner and without any delay. To deprive readers of their newspapers at a time of political uncertainty ``is most unfortunate.''
