MUMBAI, APRIL 18: The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) will set up a pavilion for collective participation of the domestic packaging industry in the forthcoming INTERPACK'99 trade fair to be held at Dussledorf, Germany, in May. The one week trade fair will commence on May 6 is rated as the largest in the world. The fair is held once every three years and the Indian pavilion, will feature manufacturers of packages, packaging materials, packaging machinery and ancillary materials, IIP's director, PV Narayanan said.The participants units will strengthen the ties developed earlier and create new markets that would consequently assist the sector in its efforts for globalisation, Narayanan said.
Besides IIP, other exhibitors from the country are -- Jindal Polyester Ltd (New Delhi), Flex Group of Companies (New Delhi), Oriental Containers Ltd (Mumbai), Jai Corp Ltd (Mumbai) and Smitabh Intercon Ltd. The participation is facilitated under the support of the ministry of commerce.
The fair attracts exhibitorsand visitors from every part of the globe. The magnitude of the fair could be judged from the previous fair held in 1996. The fair attracted about 2,300 exhibiting firms and 188,000 business visitors across the globe. This year the exhibition is spread over 15 halls, in an area of about 135,000 square metres and is expected to draw over two lakh visitors, of which 80,000 would be from Asia, Africa, South America and Europe.
