IOC offers to pick up govt stake in IBP
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has approached the government to buy latter's 33.58 per cent stake in IBP Ltd in a bid to have a strategic partnership with the marketing company. "IBP was a subsidiary of IOC in the early 70's. We have expressed our views to the petroleum ministry and given a chance we would like to pick up stake in the company," IOC chairman and managing director M A Pathan told PTI. The IOC chief said that the corporation was facilitating IBP through product availability and there was a possible synergy between the two companies.

WB Governor flags off CLW's Navjyoti
Governor of West Bengal AR Kidwai dedicated to the nation Navjyoti, a 6000hp, three-phase, state-of-the-art freight electric locomotive WAG-9, in a flagging-off ceremony at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works on Monday. Navjyoti is the first locomotive of the 1999-2000 fiscal. Kidwai congratulated the CLW workforce for becoming the first production unit in developing countriesto produce a state-of-the-art three-phase locomotive. It is the second in Asia and fifth in the world to make this locomotive. CLW general manager NK Chidambaram said the production of 165 electric locomotives in 1999-99, including 45 WAP-4 passenger locomotives, has surpassed the previous record of 27 locomotives manufactured in 1997-98.

JV partner for CPT terminal at Vallarpadam by year-end
The joint venture partner for the first ever Rs 750 crore international terminal to be set up at Vallarpadam by the Cochin Port Trust will be decided by this year-end, according to port chairman C Babu Rajeev. Speaking to newsmen in Bangalore, he said the port would have 26 per cent participation in the BOOT project with the balance being shared by the joint venture partner on a 30-year lease basis. The terminal would be one of the biggest in the country with ships of 16 mtr draught for loading and unloading container cargo. Presently, 80 per cent of the international cargo of the shipping liners for India isbeing diverted to Colombo, unloaded and transhipped by feeder ships either to Chennai or Cochin port.

Petroleum awards
The National Petroleum Management Programme (NPMP) has conferred `awards of excellence'' on A T Mehta, Anjali Hazarika, H S Singh, S K Datta, B K Mukherjee and T Rambabu for their contribution to the petroleum sector. Mehta, executive director, HPCL, was given the award on Monday in recognition of her contribution to the development of women, including creation of job opportunities for them. Hazarika, director, NPMP, was awarded for her special role in promoting excellence in management.

A unique internet site, detailing R&D of the Indian Railways, was inaugurated by Research design and Standras Organisation (RDSO) director general Hari Mohan in Lucknow on Monday. The first of its kind, the 41-page site accessible at HTTP://www. Rdso.Org, was opened as part of the ongoing 44th railway week celebrations.RDSO, which has been the brain behind various ventures of the IndianRailways since 1957, has built up the site to demonstrate the organisation's technological help being lent to the railways for better passenger services. Bharatiya Net, a local ISP has assisted RDSO in the venture.
