Bangalore, April 13: Taking a tip from FMCG firms, cellular service provider JT Mobiles Ltd (JTM) is set to unveil and make available its ``charge-slips'' throughout all shops in the state of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The system, through a tie-up with a UK company, is being launched in June this year. With the introduction of this unique pre-paid system, customers would have the option to re-charge their cell fee in advance. ``In fact, the system of pre-paid charge-slips is gaining momentum in many countries,'' JT Mobiles president KS Reddy said.
The pre-paid card system would be available even in paan shops in these two states where JTM currently offers its cellular services. ``Anticipated growth with the launch of this system is enormous. The system will reduce the time frame in approaching us and get charged. Customers may not approach us directly for sourcing the prepaid cards to submit their fee,'' he said.
``Instead, they can purchase these slips from shops in their respective territories andwith the dial of a code number we will be able to charge the customer,'' Reddy added.
Using a major distribution channel, the company would supply these charge-slips to all shops, though the target segment would be leading department stores and tourist hotels. At present JT Mobiles is working out the resellers' margins. ``Since the resellers have to invest in keeping the charge-slips at their shops, the margins for them will be attractive,'' he added.
The company is planning to chip in about Rs 6 crore for implementing the system. A part of the funds will be utilised for conducting promotional campaigns throughout the state. The advertising would be mainly through hoardings and the print media.
JTM is also entering into a strategic alliance with Logica of USA for the purpose. The system would be implemented in cell towers available in these states. Currently JTM has a presence in Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore in Karnataka, and Hyderabad, Guntur, Vijayawada, Vishakapatanam, Tirumala and Nellore inAndhra Pradesh.
According to Reddy, JTM would be the only cellular service provider in the country to cover two major cities-Bangalore and Hyderabad. The growth of customers travelling between the two adjacent cities is one of the major factors for the company's revenue. Since both these cities share one major common breed of business people -- infotech professionals-the company feels business will continue to grow.
To augment the subscriber base, JTM aims to embrace institutions like credit card operators, among others. Recently, it joined hands with Country Club to offer a package that helps the subscriber and members get dualadvantage.
A member is entitled to use the facilities of the club in both Hyderabad and Bangalore and at the same time enjoy using the mobile services in both the states with one mobile number. The company would target an additional 60,000 subscribers in both the states during the current fiscal. Currently, JT Mobiles has a subscriber base of 75,000.
JTM has kicked off itsglobal roaming facility in Singapore, Hong Kong and some parts of Europe. For the purpose, the company had entered into technical alliances with SingTel, Cellnet and Telia. The company recently launched its international roaming in all the major states in the country.
