Kochi: Black pepper prices moved side ways in the Kochi pepper market during the week ended on April 9. While the spot benchmark prices remained steady for the best part of the week, short-term futures shed further value and settle at lower levels. The activity level during the week was low and traders were essentially covering their positions.
Trade sources are of the view that prices will dip further in the coming week as the demand for the commodity was at its lowest ebb. "Unless the prices decline further, export orders are unlikely to be forthcoming", a prominent trader said.
He is of the view that Indian pepper has been priced out in the major sources of demand. This is despite the low availability of the commodity in the global market, sources added. Unless the prices decline even the US market may not accept Indian pepper in large quantity, he said.
