Power generation to touch 300,000 mw by 2020 AD

The total power generation in the country from all sources by the year 2020 is expected to be 3,00,000 mw, according to Placid Rodriguez, director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam. Power generation from nuclear projects alone would touch 20,000 mw by the year 2020, he told reporters on Sunday. He said the work on the Rs 2,700 crore 500 mw indigenous prototype fast breeder nuclear reactor would commence within a couple of years at Kalpakkam.

CRL concerned over proposed BPCL bid

The management and staff of the Cochin Refineries Limited (CRL) in Kochi, have expressed serious concern and apprehension over the reported move by the BPCL to take over the company. Company officials and workers felt that the interest of the company and the region would be served better if it remained an independent body rather than a subsidiary of BPCL. Addressing a press conference here, CRL chairman and managing director K L Kumar said,from the CRL point of view such a move would not not add any value to the company's future existence.

First freight transport exchange soon in Pune

Dynamic Logistics is establishing a Rs 200 crore road freight transport exchange (FTE) in Dighi district in Pune where freight rates can be booked and traded, says executive director Praful Talera. Talera told PTI that FTE, the first of its kind in the country, would become operational by next year. Dynamic Logistics, a city-based company promoted by Talera group, plans to raise most of the project cost through infrastructure bonds and has so far invested Rs 60 crore to create the warehousing facility, transport, container freight station and information technology, he said.

BPCL to double bottling plants in three years

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited plans to double the number of LPG bottling plants in the country during the next three years to meet future requirements, according to BPCL's marketing director S Behuria. Laying thefoundation stone of 29th LPG bottling plant for the region at industrial estate at Butibori, Behuria said the plant would have a capacity of 22,000 tmtpa. The Butubori plant would be commissioned by October 2000, he added. Presently, the Jabalpur plant supplies LPG to consumers in the western region.
