MUMBAI: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles from Mumbai to the rest of the country are likely to remain steady in the coming week, transporters said. Last week, the freight rates to most of the states dropped in the range of Rs 500-1,000, except for a few states to which the rates fell by even Rs 3,000 or few states to which rates remained steady.The fall in the rates was due to decrease in the cargo movement. The truck rates to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh remained same. The rates to Delhi decreased by Rs 1,500 to Rs 12,800. The rates to Haryana and Punjab dropped in the range of Rs 500-Rs 1,000.
The freight rates to Bihar declined by Rs 500-Rs 1,000 while rates to Uttar Pradesh witnessed a substantial fall ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 2,300. The rates to Patna decreased by Rs 500 to Rs 19,500. The rates to Muzaffarpur, the hub of carpet weavers, declined by Rs 400 to Rs 17,800. The rates to Lucknow decreased sharply from 15,500 to Rs 13,200. The rates to Agra and Meerut settled at Rs 13,000by decreasing by Rs 300 and Rs 500, respectively.
In the western sector, the freight rates to Gujarat and Maharashtra dropped marginally. The freight rates to Surat dropped by Rs 400 to Rs 3,100 while rates to Nashik dropped by Rs 300 to Rs 3,500. The truck rates to Jaipur went down by Rs 700 to Rs 9,800. Rates to remaining cities in Rajasthan dropped by Rs 500 except to Bharathpur to which the rates declined by Rs 700 to Rs 11,300.
In the eastern region, the maximum fall in the freight rates was to Assam. The rates to Guwahati decreased by Rs 3,000 to Rs 34,000. Truck rates to Tinsukhia went down by Rs 5,000 to Rs 40,000. The freight rates to Calcutta dropped by Rs 2,800 to Rs 18,700. The rates to Raniganj decreased by Rs 1,500 to Rs 19,000. The rates to Orissa decreased in the region of Rs 1,000. In south, rates to Andhra Pradesh plunged by around Rs 1,000. The rates to Vizag decreased by 1,000 to Rs 11,500.
The truck rates to Karnataka and Kerala remained same. The freight rates to Chennai decreasedby Rs 1,300 to Rs 12,200 while rates to Coimbatore went down by Rs 500 to Rs 12,000.
