French home-goods major Moulinex, Gravs join hands

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, Apr 11: The $1.5 billion French home appliances major Moulinex on Sunday announced its foray into the Indian market by signing a memorandum of understanding with Gravs Appliances for distribution and marketing of its products here.

Moulinex, which is aiming for Rs 100 crore turnover over the next three years, will launch eight products within the first year of Indian operations.

The French major has announced its Indian entry after studying the market here for four years and scouting for a suitable Indian partner.

``We have signed the MoU for marketing Moulinex's food processors, microwave ovens, mixer grinders and toasters in India and a formal announcement will be made next month,'' Gravs Appliances' managing director GM Gupta told PTI here on Sunday.

Moulinex has also agreed to provide its brand name to radiant heaters manufactured at Gravs' facility here. ``As per the agreement, Moulinex brand of radiant heaters will be available in the market from August this year,'' he said.

TheMoulinex group sells over 4.5 million appliances in over 130 countries.

With a 3,000 strong dealer network, 70 distributors and 80 franchisees, Gravs Appliances was chosen over several other, more well-known Indian names due to its own expertise in the home appliances business, Gupta said.

``At present, the agreement for manufacturing has been reached only for radiant heaters. But plans are in the pipeline for extending this to juicer mixer grinders and mixer grinders too,'' Gupta said. Gravs obtained an approval from the European quality standards body IEC for radiant heaters in January this year to certify its product quality as per European standards, he said.

As part of promoting its products in India, Moulinex has also signed up advertising agency Interact Vision for devising a comprehensive campaign and the main target segment is housewives, he said.

Gravs Appliances is a Rs 10 crore company, categorised under the small scale industry (SSI) status, since home appliances in India are manufacturedonly in this category. Almost all the major Indian brand names including Philips and BPL outsource their home appliances range from Gravs, he said.
