He told reporters here on Tuesday that orders worth Rs 700 crore were on the anvil. The southern region had registered a growth rate of 25 per cent, which, he claimed, was `very impressive' for a public sector unit. The region had bagged a prestigious Rs 2000 crore order for supply of boilers for the the 1000 mw thermal plant at Simhari in Andhra Pradesh. The project was funded by the overseas economic co-operation fund and was secured against stiff international competition, he said. This was BHEL'S single largest order and was also the first turnkey order for a 2 x 500 mw project. It had also bagged the 108 mw combined cycle power plant by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board at Kovilkalappal village in an international competitive bidding, he said. The region registered a 50 per cent increase in pre taxprofits and 68 per cent increase in turnover compared to the previous year, he said.
