New Delhi, Apr 7: Essar group of companies chairman on Wednesday turned hostile in the multi-crore JMM MPs bribery case, in which former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao is facing trial, reacting his statements made before the CBI earlier.Deposing as a witness, company chairman Shashi Ruia told special judge Ajit Bharihoke that neither had he paid any money to the Congress party nor Satish Sharma, an accused in the case, in 1993.
Ruia denied having told the CBI that he had sent Money Aggarwal to BN Safaya, then additional private secretary of Sharma, and the money was paid to some MPs who had voted against Rao in the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on July 28, 1993. He also denied having told the CBI that he had given political donations to the Congress party in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, and as back as 1970 on its request. RK Dayal, a photographer of The Indian Express deposing as witness, said he had taken photographs of Congress leaders Sharma, Bhajan Lal and Jitendra Prasad while enteringthe house of Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav on July 28 that year and the photographs appeared in his paper the next day.
