CERC may adopt realistic report on power demand projections
Sunil Mukhopadhyay
Calcutta, Apr 2: The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is likely to adopt a realistic report on power demand projections to be made in the 16th National Power Survey to be conducted in 2000 AD.It is believed that a realistic power demand projection will enable a proper planning of capacity addition, rational tariff structure and mitigate the frequency excursion in the regional and national levels. The change was felt necessary in view of a distorted picture that the planning bodies were getting regarding the power demand growth in the country. Many in the power ministry and in industry believe that the partial end-use method of load survey, so far followed in the country while planning for capacity addition, has created the projections of high loads in annual power survey reports. Capacity additions based on these higher projections have created the existing imbalance between generation and the load, and in turn the frequency fluctuations.
