Chennai, Mar 24: The higher depreciation benefit announced by the Government for the commercial vehicle sector, the marginal increase in freight rates etc does not seem to have had any impact on the commercial vehicle offtake.Commercial vehicle major, Ashok Leyland (ALL), continues to register negative growth in sales and for February '99 it has registered a 27 per cent fall in its vehicle sales (in terms of numbers) compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
In February '99, the company has sold 2191 vehicles comprising 2131 medium duty vehicle (MDV) and 60 light commercial vehicles (LCV).
It had sold 2991 vehicles in February '98 which included 2909 vehicles in MDV category and 82 vehicles in the LCV segment. February sales are lower than that of January during which the company had sold 2374 vehicles.
The cumulative sales for the period April-February '99 at 23,008 numbers is down 13 per cent compared to 26,537 vehicles in April-February '98. With the company reverting to asix-day week, the production has shown an uptrend.
