Why investors shun local companies
I had just listened to a rather long-winded harangue about the lack of vision among investors. The speaker, a leading Indian businessman whose shares had been mauled in the bourses over the last few years, has not been benefited from the recent rally in the bourses.

Who are these men kidding?
Every financial institution chairman worth his quote is going around answering questions on selling out ITC shares to BAT. Collectively, they own a shade more than the single-largest shareholder of India's largest cigarette company.

Buyback of shares and income-tax
The re-promulgated Companies (Amendment) Ordinance, 1999 has been generally welcomed by corporates, stock markets, shareholders and professionals. However, the ordinance fails to address certain issues relating to tax implications on buy-back of shares adequately.
