Arhar spurts on stockists' holding; edible oils easy

Delhi, March 12: Maize and wheat dara again firmed up and on holding of stock by the stockists, arhar and its dal, on the local market shot up on Friday.

On emergence of upcountry demand in maida from eastern India for Id festival coupled with fall in daily arrivals of wheat from the neighbouring states, wheat dara moved up to Rs 660-695 from Rs 660-680 a quintal.

Among coarse grains, maize climbed up from Rs 625-650 to Rs 650-680 a quintal on strong support from cattlefeed units of Punjab and Haryana.Among pulses, on holding of inventories by the stockists, arhar and its dal recorded a sharp rise of Rs 50-100 at Rs 1170-1650 and Rs 1850-2175 a quintal, respectively. Gram Rajasthani, however, plummeted by Rs 30 a quintal due to weak demand at higher rates.

Mustard oil tumbles

Despite strong demand in vanaspati for the ensuing Id festival from upcountry buyers, mill delivery edible oils revealed an easy tendency on inflow of 4 steamers of imported soya oil de-gummed and palmolein at Mumbai port.Soyabean oil was down by Rs 30 at Rs 2920 a quintal.

On increased inflow of mustard in all the producing mandies, new mustard in Najafgarh was priced at Rs 1175 a quintal, consequently, mustard and its oil prices here tumbled down by Rs 50-100 a quintal. Mustard oil in Jaipur plummeted to Rs 2900.

Mumbai: Prices of edible oils recovered on the oilseesd market on Friday due to fall in supply. However, non-edible section showed mixed trend, while castorseed futures rose further on sustained export demand.Groundnut oil recovered due to poor supply coupled with better upcountry advices. Imported palm oil also showed fresh progress due to rise in the international prices and reduced supply.

In the non-edible section, castor oil edged up on fresh soap manufacturers' demand and castorseed Madras rose on good export demand. Linseed oil, however declined on increased supply.

In futures, castorseed June contract opened better at Rs 1452 and rose sharply to close at the intra-day high level of Rs 1465,showing a good gain of Rs 14 over the last close of Rs 1451.

Groundnut oil closed at Rs 412 from Rs 410 and imported palm rose smartly by Rs 4 to close at Rs 295 from Thursday's close of Rs 291. Linseed oil, on the other hand, reacted by Rs 5 to end at Rs 420 from Rs 425, but linseed bold held steady at Rs 1800.

Sugar weak

Mill delivery sugar prices ruled easy on reports of import of Brazil and Pak sugar. Mill delivery sugar Mawana was traded at Rs 1495, Modi at Rs 1395, Simbhauli, on advance payment, at Rs 1375, Dhanoura at Rs 1357, Agota at Rs 1360, Raja at Rs 1360 and Dhampur tax-paid at Rs 1448 a quintal. Pak sugar Singhu border delivery slipped by Rs 5 at Rs 1475 a quintal.

Turmeric slides

Dry pomegranateseed shot up from Rs 45-115 to Rs 85-150 a kg as there was no inflow from Sangli. Arrival from Shimla, too, was reported negligible. Turmeric slided down by Rs 50-100 a quintal as its export in terms of quantity fell sharply.

Sago flared up by Rs 200 at Rs 1400 a quintal as 800factories in Tamilnadu are likely to be closed because of pollution.

Among dry fruits, cashew kernel revealed a firm tendency as inflow of new cashew kernel is likely to be delayed.

Bullion improves

Both the precious metals, on the local bullion market revealed a firm tendency on Friday on encouraging New York New advices.

New York silver future improved by 3 cents to 534 cents an ounce coupled with strong demand from Rajasthan and UP buyers, spot silver .999 fineness marked up by Rs 30 at Rs 7910 a kg and silver weekly delivery held steady at its previous close of Rs 7925 a kg.

No change was recorded in silver coins at Rs 10,500-10,700 per 100 pieces.On firm overseas advices coupled with good demand from Haryana, UP and Bihar buyers for Id, gold biscuits and standard mint gold marked up by Rs 5 at Rs 4455 and Rs 4465 per 10 gram, respectively.

Gold sovereign held steady at Rs 3750-3800 per 8 gram.

Caustic potash falls

Mostly chemicals fell further in the local market in theabsence of support from consuming units. Caustic potash and sodium bicarbonate lost Rs 100 at Rs 2000 and Rs 2000-2100 per 50 kg and sodium sulphate also fell by Rs 100 per tonne. Napthelene balls dropped by Rs 50 per 50 kg. Due to no trading enquiries, safolite, glycerine, acid slurry, phenol and hexamine declined by Rs 1-2 per kg.

Stable bleaching powder and sodium bicarbonate drifted lower by Rs 5 per bag. On the other hand, due to higher prices reports from producing markets, DMO, mentha oil, menthol flake and bold edged by Rs 1-3 per kg.
