Bangalore, Mar 8: Karnataka is gearing up to enter the new information technology era and to maintain leadership in the sector with the proposed establishment of 11 software technology parks, including nine privately funded in the state.The governor Khurshed Alam Khan, in his address to the joint legislture session here, said it was projected that during 1999-2000, nine privately funded software technology parks would be set up in Bangalore and two large ones in Mangalore and Mysore.
The government had intiated several steps last year to devleop a `silicon triangle' with Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore at the vertices. The government's consistent efforts had put Karnataka on the map of India and Asia as an IT giant.
He said the earth station at the Mysore software technology park site had been commissioned last November and the software technology park at Hubli was in an advanced stage.
The government, Khan said, had added 330 acres of land to the existing electronic city on Hosur road, making it thelargest IT park in Asia.
He said Karnataka had acheived a software export of Rs 2,500 crore this year. International surveys had recently recognised Bangalore as IT capital of the country and also as one amongst the top 10 techno cities of the world.
