HYDERABAD, March 8: In a bid to give a big push and with an eye on the growing scooter market in India, TVS Suzuki Ltd entered the Andhra Pradesh market with its latest launch TVS Spectra here on Friday.According to the area manager Abdul Rahuman, nearly 2.2 lakh two-wheelers are being sold in Andhra Pradesh annually, of which the scooter segment holds the major chunk of 40 per cent. ``With this vehicle's launch we expect our market share will touch around 27 per cent in AP,'' he said.
Rahuman said ``We are the second largest in motorcycles with 21 per cent market share and hold the monopoly in mopeds with 53 per cent. With 38 dealerships and 102 authorised service centres all over the state, we would be able to capture the rural market easily.''
Spectra's USP is a centrally-mounted engine, which ensures a well-balanced drive -- and a very large luggage space which can carry up to 18 kg of load. This first four-stroke and four-gear scooter is also fitted with twin shock absorbers in the front wheel andits elevated handle bar gives free and easy driving for the longest period, Rahuman said.
Spectra, a rugged scooter, will address the rural areas also. ``We are very strong as far as the rural market is concerned and we believe we would be successful with this scooter also,'' he added.
In reply to a question he said that since the scooter segment holds the major market share in India, TVS chose to go for the four-stroke scooter initially. ``However, we plan to introduce the four-stroke motorcycle also in the later stage depending on the market's condition. We have the facility in our plant in this regard.''
To tackle the future emission norms, the company has two solutions. One to shift to four-stroke models and two, to have catalytic convertors. A catalytic convertor feature has already been introduced in the Suzuki Shaolin model, Rahuman said.
``We are planning to offer attractive and affordable finance scheme soon too. There are already 20 such schemes for our vehicles in the market. More newproducts ranging from 60 cc to 200 cc are in the pipeline,'' he added.
