Indica set to hit the roads by weekend

Our Corporate Bureau
Mumbai, Mar 8: Telco dealers in Mumbai are bracing up to kick off deliveries of the Indica from the end of this week. Dealers expect delivery for the first lot of 10,000 bookings to be completed by end-April.

The automobile flagship of the Tata group plans to sell 10,000 Indicas in the current financial year, and has received part-payment for them.

Some of the city-based dealers who spoke on condition of anonymity said that they were yet to start delivering the Indica, and would start doing so "hopefully" before the end of the week.

"It is clear that the entire delivery will be completed by end-April," said an official at a dealership which has to deliver over 400 Indicas.

"We have received a few cars but are awaiting clients accompanied with the booking slip and the no-objection certificate from the finance company to ensure that full payment has been made. No client has come forth yet, and we expect them to start coming in by the end of the week, by when about 10 cars should have been delivered. Thetarget to complete the first lot is by end-April," said official who did not wish to be named.

An official at another leading dealer said that the deliveries would start only from Thursday. An official at another Mumbai-based dealer's outlet said that they had so far received only a handful of cars and would be able to receive some more in the next two days to start delivery "hopefully" by the end of the week.

On whether the dealer would be able to deliver all the cars by the end of the month, the official said: "That depends on the company. You have to ask them." A Telco source said that the deliveries were on schedule and would be completed by April-May this year.

Mumbai will, however, represent just about 1,500 of the 10,000 Indicas which need to be delivered. The allotments were done on a random basis and, therefore, spread across the country.
