CALCUTTA, March 3: Jessop & Co Ltd is gradually vacating its headquarters for the state finance department. The state government is scheduled to buy the building, situated at a prime location in Calcutta's business district, Dalhousie, for Rs 27 crore and the money will be spent on reviving the sick central public sector unit. Sources in Jessop told The Financial Express: "The government has already made an initial payment of Rs 2 crore and it will pay another Rs 3.20 crore when the building is handed over to it. Thereafter, in 10 equal instalments, it will pay yet another Rs 20 crore. All these will add up to Rs 25.20 crore and the rest Rs 1.80 crore will be adjusted against the sales tax dues of Jessop."
The state government decided to buy the Jessop property, a grand structure of the Raj era with 10,042 sqm of covered area on a 3,840 sqm plot, after the company failed to attract a buy at a proposed price of around Rs 27 crore.
