Chennai, Mar 3: The Indian arm of the global leader in power protection equipment, American Power Conversion (APC), is likely to commence production of uninterrupted power supply systems (UPS) from its Bangalore plant by June. The state-of-the-art facility will help American Power Conversion India (APCI) feed the Indian market which is presently met through imports. APCI has a market share of 25 per cent in the Indian 0-5 KVA UPS market. The hike in the import duty on finished products and the reduction in the customs duty of critical computer components have made local production all the more attractive said Rishipal Sethi, country general manager - India and South Asia. He, however, declined to quantify the amount of investment that is being made in the Bangalore facility.
APCI, on Tuesday, announced the marketing tie-up with Electronic Resources India Ltd (ERIL), an affiliate of the $22-billion Ingram Micro - the largest wholesale distributor of technology products in the world. ERIL has distributionbase in 20 cities all over the country and has a 400 strong retailer base. APCI plans to reach out to various centres in the country by virtue of this tie-up.
William A Thayer, managing director, Asia, APCC, said the IT industry in India was growing at an alarming rate and power condition in the country as it exists makes power protection equipment a prerequisite. It is this market APCI hopes to tap and the tie-up with ERIL would help, he added.
