Bangalore, Mar 3: Bou-Matic, a part of the $170 million AgriTec Group of DEC International Inc of USA, is scouting for joint venture partners for marketing its products in India. The company plans to unveil its cow milking and dairy processing and cooling equipment in the country shortly.
Bou-Matic international product line manager Mofazzal Chowdhury said the company was exploring the potential of the Indian dairy market. "We may undertake a market research prior to the launch of the products here," he added.
"Our business strategy will be finalised only after assessing the potential of the domestic market. Initially, we will have a distributor somewhere in north India. The size of the milking equipment market will determine our investment plans in the country. However, the company does not have plans for setting up a manufacturing facility in the country," he added.
At present, Bou-Matic has five state-of-the-art manufacturing units worldwide. For manufacturing cow milking equipment, the company hasproduction units in Germany, Brazil, England and New Zealand and a dairy products processing and cooling equipment facility in America.
Though India is one of the largest milk producing countries in the world, many farmers are reluctant to shift to the modern technologies, shedding the conventional system of milking and cooling, he pointed out.
The company will have to promote the advantages of the new technologies which will reduce the time of milking and assure more productivity and quality of the product.
"Large scale cow milking and group farming is yet to pick up here," he added.Bou-Matic and other AgriTec companies, in partnership with local dealers, offer a global network of commercial and technical support services which will help the farmers become profitable.
Chowdhury, a part of the Wisconsin Mission from USA, was in Bangalore on Wednesday for expanding trade relations between India and Wisconsin. "While the Bangalore market is not suitable for our products, we see huge potential in stateslike Punjab and Haryana," he said.
