New Delhi, Feb 27: A national foundation to help scientists and innovators is being set up with an initial corpus of Rs 20 crore, finance minister Yashwant Sinha has announced.Sinha said that the foundation would build a national register of innovations, mobilise intellectual property protection, set up incubator for converting innovations into viable business opportunities and help in dissemination across the country. He said that the government also proposed to set up a technology mission on vaccines to provide a focus to the effort revolutionise medical and health systems.
He said to coordinate policies, research, documentation and legal protection of the country's rights, a national bio-resources board (NBB) would be established under the chairmanship of the minister of science and technology.He said among the 18 hot spots of bio-diversity in the world, two happened to be in India in the eastern Himalayas and the Western Ghats.
