Calcutta, Feb 27: The management of Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) has set up a high-level internal committee headed by a general manager to probe into the causes of the fire that broke out on Thursday morning near the plant's cokeoven unit, according a DSP senior official. The naphtha stock lying near the cokeoven plant caught fire at 9 o'clock in the morning on Thursday. Naphtha is produced at the cokeoven unit as a by-product. "The committee has been asked to probe the cause of the fire and assess the damage. It has already started its work and has been asked to place its report as early as possible," DSP's executive director (works) UP Singh told The Financial Express.
Singh said the reports published in a section of the press stating that the damage had been in the order of Rs 30-40 crore was totally inaccurate. "You cannot expect such a huge stock of naphtha in a cokeoven plant," Singh said. He said there was no damage to the plant, no worker was injured. u
