Measures to give economy a boost
The 1999-2000 union budget has provided both direct and indirect mesures steer the economy out of the recession.The budget has been able to adress some of the fundamental problems of the economy.
Good intentions, but budget may still prove taxing
Even without the benefit of reading the fine print of the Finance Bill, several issues come to mind on the direct tax proposals made by the finance minister. But to speak generally first, the approach is clearly well intentioned to assist the capital markets in several ways.
Debt market set to double on waiver of stamp duty
To be very frank, this was the last thing we expected to be announced. The secondary debt market was limping because of the levy of this rather high stamp duty on transfer of debt instruments.
