Sebi approval for differential settlement

KVVV Charya
Hyderabad Feb 24: The Sebi committee has in-principle agreed to consider differential settlement cycle between the Inter-Connected Stock Exchange (ISE) and the participating regional bourses. HSE president Rajender Naniwadekar said after going through the presentation made by ISE officials, Sebi had accepted the proposal to allow independent trading cycles for ISE and other participating bourses. According to Naniwadekar, the market regulator had earlier insisted that all participating regional stock exchanges implement uniform trading and settlement cycles in their respective bourses.

He said the member exchanges have agreed to Sebi's condition and are meeting on March 1, 1999, to fix an agreeable settlement cycle. The ISE's settlement period is Thursday to Wednesday. Despite the limited participation from four stock exchanges initially, the new exchange will go on-line as per its earlier schedule, i.e., February 26, 1998. Out of 2,000 odd broker-members, only 128 have enrolled their names with ISE.However, with Sebi's approval for the differential settlement cycle, the participants' strength will increase. Naniwadekar opined. At present, only 10 exchanges will be in a position to log-in to ISE's on-line system.
