RBI list on errant NBFCs soon

Our Bureau
Pune, Feb 24: The Reserve Bank will be coming out with a list of NBFC's whose registration has been rejected and those who have been barred from accepting public deposits. VSN Murty, chief general manager, department of non-banking financial companies said that this list will also be notified to the state governments so that action can be taken. He said that around 5,000 companies are continuing to accept deposits though they have been barred from doing so. The list will be published next month.

This is part of the campaign against errant NBFC's and unincorporated bodies who are soliciting deposits despite being prohibited from accessing deposits. This list which will be published regularly will enable prosecution against persons and companies operating in violation of the provision when these offenses become a cognizable offense.

Murty was in Pune to conduct the first-ever training programme by RBI for senior executives of NBFCs to appraise them of the supervisory concerns of RBI and problems related to NBFCs. The first programme had 32 participants and there are plans to hold such programmes regularly.

Murty said that apart from tracking errant companies RBI is also working to improving transparency in the existing finance companies. RBI has just finalised the draft for the prescribed balance sheets for NBFCs and proper disclosure requirements. This is likely to be put into practice by next year.

RBI has identified 28,676 companies having NOF of below Rs 25 lakhs. Only 8802 companies have NOF of Rs 25 lakhs and above of which only 7520 approvals have been issued. RBI has asked those with NOF less than Rs 25 lakhs to file returns on their SLR securities.
