Bangalore, Feb 24: Marking its entry into the medium-heavy truck segment (15-30 tonnes payload), Swedish heavy truck major Volvo today rolled out its new truck, the fl7, from its Hoskote plant, near here.A flexible and an easy-to-drive vehicle offering high productivity combined with low operating cost, fl7 will allow Volvo to serve the entire tractor-trailer segment, Volvo India managing director, Ravi Uppal, told newsmen on the occasion.
The Volvo fl7 4X2 tractor-trailer, he said, has been optimised for sea-container, bulk-tank and refrigeration systems, and it provides an economical transport solution with its super-efficient fuel engine.
Uppal said the product has been carefully chosen keeping in mind Indian conditions and provides the best in terms of safety, reliability and driver productivity.
To a question, he said Volvo India, the fully-owned subsidiary of $28 billion automobile giant, would focus on the bus market, and noted that it is already exporting castings, forgings and fabricated components, among others.
The company has already sold over 100 fh12 truck launched last year, and the Indian arm would try to break-even in two years, Uppal added.
According to a senior Volvo official, the tractor-trailer segment will be the future of long-haul transportation in India. Volvo also plans to introduce buses and construction equipment in the Indian market.
