Coimbatore, Feb 23: With continued arrivals of kappas, cotton lint prices displayed a mixed trend during the first fortnight of the month.The mills were not able to commit for bulk lots and bought only their immediate requirements, following low cash flow, the South India cotton association (SICA), in its market report for the period said.
With few transactions and dropped arrivals of kappas reported, prices remained quiet in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan belts. Bengal deshi ruled at Rs 1,460 to Rs 1,530 and J-34 saw ginned was being quoted at Rs 1,675 to Rs 1,780 per maund spot, it said.
The lint prices remained steady in Gujarat, where quality lots were in good demand. Good quality shankar-6 was offered at Rs 20,500 and V-797 ruled at Rs 16,000 to Rs 16,300 per candy spot, the report said.
In Madhya Pradesh, lint prices remained easy with H-4 ruling at Rs 18,800 to Rs 19,000 per candy spot, while Maharashtra had reduced up to Rs 200 per candy on certain varieties due to lack of bulk buying support from mills.
Prices in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka ruled steady to firm and DCH-32 good quality was in good demand. However, prices were yet to stabilise in Tamil Nadu, SICA said.
