Cotton futures remain firm: In Mumbai cotton prices remained firm last week on the futures market when February 1999 delivery was fixed higher at Rs 4,855 per quintal from the last level of Rs 4,845, while April 1999 delivery was quoted higher at Rs 4,950 per quintal. he June 1999 delivery opened at Rs 4,981 per quintal and moved up to Rs 5,001 and closed at Rs 5,000 per quintal, an East India Cotton Association release said. Waste yarn declines: In New Delhi waste yarn declined on the cotton yarn market last week on reduced offtake and closed with small losses. Elsewhere, prices moved in a small range restricting trading activities and settled unchanged. Marketmen said arrival and offtake was small and volume of business negligible. Waste yarn Jyoti 2 count lost rupee one at Rs 119 per 4.54 kilo, diamond 2 count by a same margin at Rs 122 and deepak 2 count at Rs 126 per 4.54 kilo respectively. Rs 3cr deals athandicrafts fair: Business worth Rs three crore was generated at the Indian Handicrafts Fair held in Birmingham in the United Kingdom recently. Further orders worth Rs four crore are also expected to be generated in the coming months, said a statement by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts which had organised the fair. Product profile included textile-based handicrafts, iron and wood furniture, rugs, shawls and crafted stonecraft. Exports to the United Kingdom in 1997-98 were Rs 460 crore out of total exports of Rs 4300 crore from India, said the release.
