NIA revamps courseware

New Delhi, Feb 14: After successfully running its advertising course for the last three years, the Delhi-based National Institute of Advertising (NIA) is offering a more comprehensive advertising and management course. The new course is a two-year post-graduate diploma in Marketing Communications Management.Says Namrata Suri, director, NIA: `` Instead of hiring a person each for advertising and marketing, companies look for both skills in a single individual. The two-year Marketing Communications Management course will expose students to advertising, management, computers and communications.'' The course is spread over four semesters and covers 35 papers.The total fee is Rs 1,21,000.

NIA does not have any recognition from the government but it draws its strength from industry recognition. Apart from a core faculty of four, it has a part time faculty of nine and a guest faculty of 15 including: Parveen Ahluwalia, vice-president, strategy planning, FS Advertising, Nippun Gupta, former head, Trikaya Grey,Denis Joseph, vice president and executive director HTA, Sushil Pandit, vice president Contract Advertising, Ram Seghal, president, Contract Advertising, Bunty Peerbhoy, managing director, MAA Bozell Communications Ltd, Nikhil Nehru, chief operation officer, McCann Erickson India.

The revamped look course has additional papers on Business Policy, Business Communications, Direct Marketing, Management Accounting, Product Management, International Marketing, Marketing Research, Multimedia & Internet, Sales Promotion, and Business Environment.

In the past, the Institute claims to have placed students in companies like Lintas, HTA, Jindal Strips Ltd, Siemens Ltd, Mudra Communications, Crompton Greaves Ltd, GE Capital etc. It was founded in September 1995 and is a fully owned division of Society for Education and Development of Advertising & Communications.
