Suvesh Sircar
Calcutta, Feb 10: "Everything's Connected" is the trademark of Onward Novell India, the 50:50 venture between Onward and networking giant Novell Inc of the US. Making its trademark come alive yet again, Novell is networking the entire campus at the India Institute of Management, Calcutta, complete with a software laboratory. The cost of the project -- Rs 50 lakh, with software accounting for Rs 30 lakh -- will be borne by Novell. The laboratory, billed as one of the best Novell labs in the world, will begin operations this month. Onward Novell India, set up in 1993, reported a turnover of around $15 million (Rs 60 crore) in 1998.The software products that will be installed at IIMC are networking software IntranetWare, organiser & scheduler GroupWise, network management software ManageWise and firewall BorderManager. The BorderManager will have a 100-user license. The entire campus will be networked and the 770-odd students and faculty members will have their own e-mail addresses."Novell's NetWare version4.11 and 5 are the only Y2K compliant product available globally," claimed a company official.IntranetWare is supported by all international hardware and software vendors like Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, IBM Unix, Lucent Technologies and Cisco, the world's largest router company.Novell figures the expenditure will be worth it, as its reputation is spread by word of mouth by IIMC students, the future managers of industry.
