Aptech to focus on consultancy, software exports

Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: Aptech Ltd, the premier computer training and education concern, is planning to shift its focus to consultancy and software exports.

"We are now concentrating more on consultancy and software activities," executive director Pramod Khera said. Stating that Aptech's 90 per cent business comes from computer training and education and 10 per cent from consultancy and software business, he said he company has set a target to do at least 40 per cent business in consultancy and software by 2001-02.

Khera said that Aptech, during the 1997 calander year, had posted a net profit of Rs 23 crore on a total turnover of Rs 202 crore. He also said the balance sheet for 1998 is under preparation and the company is expected to post a 35 to 40 per cent growth in business in 1998. He said the recession has not affected the information technology sector.

The executive director said Aptech will set up a centre of excellence within a couple of months to impart consultancy on SAP. The company is alsotalking to some state governments to train their personnel and produce software in collaboration with Microsoft.

Khera, who was here on Friday to launch Aptech's latest course, Vidya, told reporters that his company is aiming to make at least one lakh people computer literate through the new course in the next six months. The three-month course is being offered at a 50 per cent subsidised price of Rs 950 so that more and more people can afford it, he added.
