Mumbai, Jan 14: Nelco, a Tata group company, has signed a strategic alliance pact with the US-based GE Harris Energy Control Systems to address the SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition systems), EMS (energy management system) and DA (distribution automation systems) markets in India.The agreement is an exclusive one between the two companies and will enhance their existing presence in the country, said a Nelco release.
GE Harris Energy Control Systems (GEHECS) is a joint venture company between General Electric Power Systems Group and Harris Corporation of USA. GEHECS is a leader in the energy management systems for the world-wide utility industry.
Nelco has been in the field of SCADA and EMS systems for several years and has executed projects for the Tata Electric Companies, Indian Railways and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The alliance is expected to bring together the ideas and expertise of two companies to satisfy the needs of Indian utilities, the release said.
Nelco and GEHECS are currently executing the $33 million state-of-the-art SCADA/EMS for PowerGrid Corporation of India for their southern region grid coordination project. Nelco is also executing a project for BEST for their south Mumbai substation automation.
The alliance has also bid, among other projects, for the supply of similar systems for their north east and eastern region grid coordination programme, the release added.
