Maharashtra to computerise operations

Pune, Jan 8: State principal secretary (IT), Suresh Kumar said that a decision was taken by the government to computerise government operations in two years. This will be among the biggest initiative in the country to promote IT applications in the government.Kumar said that the government was promoting schemes to increase computer literacy among government employees. Interest-free loans for purchasing computers and assistance for undergoing computer training and certification programmes were on the cards. "By May every desk at Mantralay will have a computer and there will be links with each and every district headquarter in the state," Kumar said. The project aims at providing computers to every tehsil in the state. Industry secretary Yeshwant Bhave said that trained human resources was the strength of Maharashtra with 1,50,000 students entering the science discipline every year. We now plan to start computer labs in all the local and secondary schools across the state to initiate students to computersat an early age, he said.
