Ficci seeks core status for coal, steel sectors: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has demanded infrastructure status for steel and coal sectors, saying they needed encouragement through fiscal incentives accruing from such a measure. In its pre-budget memorandum, the chamber has also sought recognition to container freight station and inland container depot as infrastructure facility.India international jewellery show in February: Come February, the capital will witness an exquisite display of gems and jewellery, courtesy the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS '99). The four-day show beginning February 20 is being sponsored by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council under the commerce ministry, convener IIJS '99 Nirmal Rakyan said on Sunday. "Since the country's gem and jewellery sector is the largest foreign-exchange earner, the exposition will provide domestic industry an opportunity to display their goods to international and domesticwholesale buyers," he said.
BHEL develops indigenous induction motor: Public-sector Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has developed the country's largest capacity-induction motor that is likely to reduce the country's dependence on foreign suppliers and save valuable foreign exchange. The pressurised enclosed 4070 kilowatt capacity squirrel cage induction motor was manufactured and tested at BHEL's Bhopal plant, a company release said on Sunday. The motor, indigenously designed, is suitable for operation in highly-inflammable hazardous areas.
TNT Express to expand network: TNT Express Worldwide India has plans to increase its network to 23 offices in 16 cities by the end of this year. Its target is to be number one or two in the Rs 300-crore-a-year market for express courier services in the country. "We are the only courier company which changes its services to suit clients. Our customised services are well-known in the industry," says Ajay Kaul, head of sales and marketing, TNT India. TNTExpress Worldwide India once rushed an important document to prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on one of his foreign visits.
