A part of the research and development work on HP's OpenView solutions is being done at Hewlett-Packard's India software operations (HPISO) which has development facilities at Bangalore and Chennai. This programme provides the following tools, processes and people to help IT departments to proactively solvethe variety of Year 2000 issues that exist in the desktop environment: Integration of best-in-class Year 2000 hardware and software knowledge databases, from a variety of vendors, with HP OpenView Desktop administrator's inventory and distribution technology; Year 2000 rapid deployment implementation processes, including documentation of new methodologies; Consultations by HP OpenView channel partners, experts in Y2K deployment; Hands on workshops to instruct administrators on best practices for dealing with Year 2000 issues. The Y2K problem is one of the biggest issues facing business worldwide, and companies are at present pouring billions of dollars into understanding the nature of problems that may arise in their particular business areas as the century turns the corner into the millennium on December 31, 1999. A number of Indian software companies have also evolved their own customised software packages, which has even led to a software boom in the Indian stock market, and created a number of software bluechips around the Y2K problem. Some analysts have even gone on to criticise their overconcentration on the Y2K problem in arriving at their product mix. In India, Hewlett Pakcard India (HPI) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company having sales and support offices in six metros (Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Calcutta) and a manufacturing facility in Bangalore.
