Wipro Infotech gets licence to launch Net services:

Wipro Infotech has obtained the national license from the government to provide Internet services. Wipro Communications Services has also announced a strategic alliance with the US-based General Interactive Inc (GII) to provide Internet hosting services for GII in the country. GII will create websites and interactive solutions for Wipro customers. GII's primary markets include customer-focused enterprises in electronic commerce, financial services, retail and the entertainment industry, a release said.

Hewlett-Packard, Vintron forge alliance:

Hewlett-Packard India has taken Vintron Industries onboard as an alliance partner to market its high-end personal computers, servers and workstations. Announcing the strategic alliance for distribution and support in the capital on Friday, Vintron chairman and managing director RK Gupta said the alliance was a win-win situation for both the companies as Vintron which sold 10,000 low-end entry level PCs in the last year will be able to serve the market better with HP's high-end machines. Vintron will be involved in the new market development process, particularly in B and C class cities, he added.

Ikos Systems commissions R&D centre in India:

The US-based Ikos Systems has commissioned its million-dollar innovative research and development laboratory in the country to develop patentable products. "The research and development centre, located at Noida will develop high-end patentable products," company senior vice-president Robert Hum said. Ikos (India) Pvt Ltd aims to attract the best talent from the IITs and mould them to develop innovative programmes.

Rad Data Communications to make ASM-20 modem:

Rad-MRO combine, a joint venture company of Rad Data Communications of Israel and the bangalore based MRO-Tek express, will manufacture Rad modems in the country. The first few Rad products to be manufactured at the joint venture will be the ASM-20 modem which is a asynchronous and synchronous short range (7.5 kms at 64 kbps) modem operating at selectable rates from 19.2 kbps to 256 kbps full or half-duplex over twisted paint, unconditioned lines, jermey lange, Rad regional sales manager India said.

Exhibition on environment-friendly technology:

Leading companies from across the globe will showcase environment-friendly technology at an exhibition-cum-seminar in the capital next week. The four-day `Enviro International '98', organised by Tafcon Projects and the Indian Institute of Ecology & Environment (IIEE), aimed at generating awareness among the Indian industry, government organisations as well as general public, will focus on measures and technologies available to control pollution, conserve energy and increase production, Tafcon vice-president Hari Jagwani said.
