Raghavan to take over as Indian Bank chief

Our Banking Bureau
Mumbai, Dec 7: Bank of Maharashtra chairman-cum-managing director TS Raghavan is taking over as Indian Bank chief following the appointment of S Rajagpal as Bank of India CMD. The CMD post in Bank of Maharashtra has been filled in by Uco Bank executive director MM Vaish.

The notifications of all three appointments were issued last week.

The reshuffle at the top of three state-run banks was triggered by Rajagopal's appointment as BoI chief. Rajagapal, who was at the helm of Indian Bank for close to three years (January 1, 1996, to December 4, 1998) joined Bank of India on Saturday. Raghavan was sent to Indian Bank to fill in CMD's post which bacame vacant following Ragajopal's new appointment and Vaish in turn stepped in Raghavan's shoes in Bank of Maharashtra.

The post of BoI chief has been lying vacant over the last seven months since MG Bhide left seeking premature retirement on "personal grounds".

With Rajapal's appointment as BoI chief, barring Nabard, none of the financial intermediaries remainsheadless at the moment. Dena Bank chief Ramesh Mishra is tipped to head Nabard.

The State Bank witnessed a top level reshuffle last week with MS Verma stepping down as chairman as MP Radhakrishnan taking over for two months. GG Vaidya, who has been elevated as managing director of the bank, will become SBI chairman on February 1, 1999.
