MUMBAI, DEC 2: The market opened on a positive note, with prices of pivotals quoting higher than their previous close at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday. The S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 820.35 points, touched the day's high of 826.05 points, fell to the day's low of 817.35 points before closing at 821.15 points, showing a net gain of 4.50 points from the previous close.The CNX Nifty Junior ended higher by 12.75 points at 1,389.30 points, S&P CNX Defty closed at 668.50 points, up 3.85 points, while the S&P CNX 500 and CNX Midcap 200 firmed up by 3.37 points and 3.44 points to end at 564.12 and 508.40, respectively.
The total turnover on the NSE stood at Rs 1,047.27 crore from trading in 5.69 crore shares. The number of trades was 181295 and value of debentures traded at Rs 19.58 lakh.
A total of 610 scrips advanced, 318 declined and 88 remained unchanged. About 35 securities hit their price bands on Wednesday. ITC topped the turnover list with Rs 142.07 crore followed by SatyamComputers (Rs 124.34 crore), Reliance (Rs 114.83 crore), Pentafour Software (Rs 91.11 crore) and SBI (Rs 89.31 crore).
Other scrips which recorded a high turnover were Silverline, Zee Telefilms, Telco, HCL-HP, Tisco, Castrol and Bhel. The top gainers were ICICI, Tata Chemicals, Grasim, Cochin Refineries and M&M. Losers included Indian Hotels, Castrol, Guj Ambuja, Telco and ITC. FIIs were net sellers to the tune of Rs 6.20 crore, while domestic institutional investors and mutual funds offloaded shares of a net amount of Rs 1.23 crore.
